In Armenian mythology the pomegranate symbolizes abundance, fertility, prosperity and good fortune. It is also believed that a mature pomegranate has 365 seeds – one for each day of the year.
Ever-present in weddings, a bride would throw a pomegranate against a wall breaking it into pieces. The scattered seeds ensured that the couple would bear children.

Over the years, Armenian artists have used the pomegranate as a theme to symbolize a spectrum of emotions – from pain to hope, rebirth and the survival of a nation.

These pomegranate brooches reveal motifs delineated from Sevanavank's architectural stone-carved patterns, dating back to the 12th century in Sévan, Gegharkunik province, Armenia.

Each pomegranate brooch is an artisanal hand finished piece, with a slightly hammered and textured finish, in 18k gold plated brass.
